Interests

Language

Since ~December 2021 I’ve been studying Japanese with AJATT derived methodologies. I intend on visiting Japan for a month or two within the next 2-3 years. I find the (very) gradual improvement in comprehension very rewarding and I’m excited to apply it one day.

Linux

I dove into GNU/Linux with Arch. Like everyone (I hope), I broke my first few installs but perservered and learned from my mistakes. I’ve really enjoyed learning about GNU/Linux and constructing my own computing environment. Suckless and other minimalist software is the way to go in my experience.

Input Devices

I like to build custom keyboards. I initially built a few 60% layouts, but only a few weeks later became convinced of the benefits of 40% ortholinear layouts, which I’ve used ever since. I’ve built many 4x12 ortholinears (3) and have recently began to stray away from 4x12s to experiment with split layouts. I’ve handwired a 4x5 dactyl manuform but found I miss the 6th row modifiers/keys so I bought a kit and built a Corne.

I also use a Ploopy Adept as my pointing device, unless I’m gaming. Trackballs ftw.

Time Tracking

I track my time using timewarrior when I’m doing something I consider productive. This allows me to be more aware of trends regarding how my time is utilized by allowing me to review intervals. I’ve written a few Bash scripts which I’ve discussed a little about in my blog. In short, the scripts I’ve written streamline the tracking process using dmenu and a custom status bar block.
